Nice and Surrounds

You are here

It,s good, it’s good, it’s nice … but NICE is so much more than “nice”.  The Jewel in the Crown of the Cote d’Azure, framed by the sparkling blue waters of the Mediterranean, Nice is everything you could imagine, and more. Opulent, extravagant, historical, casual, beautiful and busy. Stroll down the Promenade des Anglais amongst the crowds of runners, roller-skaters, strollers and walkers. Occupy one of the many benches that litter the wide avenue and gaze along the coastline, or spot the celebrity, whilst enjoying the obligatory gelato. Beach cafés and restaurants dotted along the beach offer a multitude of refreshments and invite you in, whilst the crystal clear water of the Mediterranean within touching distance, gently laps the pebbled beach, begging you to jump in. Typically café society, cafes and restaurants line the pavements opposite the Promenade, encouraging you to sit and enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine and to be tempted by delicious French specialties. So accept the open invitation … take a seat, relax and drink in the charm and allure of Nice. Be charmed by The Cours Saleya market, where flowers, fruit, vegetables and local products live side by side until they find their way into shoppers bags. Souvenir shops and restaurants, loudly proclaiming their specials and offers, are also there, side-by-side, but keep your eyes peeled – tucked in between, there is also a good old Irish Pub. Fancy a bit of culture?  Take in the Basilique Notre Dame, the old fort Batterie Du Mont-Boron or Le Cadran Solaire on Quai Rauba Capeu – an unusal sundial calculating time by the shadow on the human head, and many more. Take a slow drive down millionaires coast to Antibes, Juan Les Pins, Cannes and Saint Tropez in one direction and to Monaco in the opposite direction. Drool at the opulence - giant yachts moored in the distance, or in the harbor, some even displaying their private helicopters, allowing us to dream of another, more indulgent, life. Explore Grasse, the perfume capital, as well as the surrounding towns and villages with their narrow, windy roads and exotic names … Beaulieu-sur-mer, Belvedere, Biot, Vance, Breil-sur-Roya or Le Canton Aux 10 (a group of villages perched in the hills above Nice). More adventurous? Meet the wolves at Mercantour or try diving with dolphins, bungee jumping at Pont de La Mariée, suba-diving, big-game fishing or parascending. All-in-all, Nice is truly unforgettable – the experience of a lifetime.  It is, without doubt, everything you could wish for, and more.
